MERU AT THE HEART OF AFRICA’S CLIMATE AGENDA
H.E. Hon Mutuma M'ethingia shared the voice of Meru and the journey of Meru people have walked on climate resilience, innovation, and hope. For Meru residents, climate change is not a theory; it is the lived reality of farmers who watch the rains fail, pastoralists who search for pasture, and families who struggle to protect their livelihoods. Yet, it is in this struggle that Meru has found its strength.
Through the FLLoCA programme, our communities are not waiting for handouts; they are taking charge, adopting climate-smart agriculture, conserving our forests and water towers, and building green enterprises that sustain families. The Governor told Arica and the world that when action begins at the grassroots, it does not just change lives, it transforms futures.
On the sidelines of the Summit, he held engagements with leaders and partners, including Teresa Ribera (EU Executive Vice President), Semereta Sewasew (Ethiopia’s Finance Minister), Mithika Mwenda Mzalendo, Executive Director Pan- African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA),Sofie From-Emmesberger (EU Ambassador), Diana Acconcia (EU Director for Climate Affairs), Soikan Meitiaki (World Bank), Sam Mugume (Coalition of Ministers of Finance for Climate Action), and Peter Odhengo (National FLLoCA Coordinator). With each discussion, he carried one clear message: Meru is open to the world.
He invited partners to the county to advance renewable energy, water harvesting, sustainable agriculture, and conservation. He also showcased Meru’s abundance, our coffee, bananas, avocados, tea, miraa, dairy, beef, honey, macadamia, and horticulture, not just as commodities, but as the pride of our farmers, waiting for global markets. He informed potential investors that Meru has taken a step further, becoming the first county in Kenya to establish a County Aggregation and Industrial Park, which is now ready for use.
"Meru is ready. Africa is ready. Together, we will turn resilience into opportunity".
